I missed a really great show Sunday night – Brad Leali / Shelley Carrol Big Band performed at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., Denton, 7-9 p.m. – Free.
To my shame, not being one to experience many long periods of “pure-d” fun and music with good friends, I was still recovering from my 11-hour experience at the 14th Annual Denton Blues Festival at Quakertown Park. (By the way, the Blues festival offered BBQ from at least five different places. I was so in heaven!)
Shelley Carrol formerly of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and Brad Leali formerly of the Count Basie Orchestra formed a big band right here in Dallas. – take a listen:

The acoustic, all-brass quintet plays resonant, full brass versions of Jazz standards from Dave Brubeck to Charlie Parker, featuring Marshall Smith on trumpet, Jordan Gheen on trumpet, Catherine Gilstrap playing French horn, Paul Burk on trombone and AG Robeson on bass trombone and tuba.

- Thursday Noon Concert Series @ UNT Union One O’Clock Lounge, features the Two O’Clock Lab Band, Directed by Jay Saunders.The Two O’Clock Lab Band, directed by Jay Saunders, has released a new double CD entitled Two Twos. It’s available at UNT Jazz Studies online store as a digital product: Two Twos.
- Denton’s own Brave Combo performs at the Oktoberfest in Addison from 6-7 p.m. and from 9-10 p.m.

Oui Bis (French for “yes, again) features a variety of styles of music. Much of what we play is in the American Old Time tradition as well as Irish, Scottish and English folk dance music. We love to add to our mix Old Standards (that is to say Jazz from the early to mid 20th century), Latin American Jazz tunes of various sorts, Balkan and Slavic tunes and a handful of original tunes that might lean heavily on all of the above.
