Three shows this week @ Sweetwater

Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., Denton, stokes the red, hot summer with a different kind of heat with three music-filled nights this week. Music starts at 7 p.m. and is free.
Sunday, July 1 sets off a week of hot Brazilian samba grooves with Brasuka! And keeps sparkling with Tuesday Jazz Night (July 3) Cuban-flavored fare from Mi Son Mi Son. July 4 sets off a rousing, flag-waving salute with Americana music by local band, Bonnie and Nick Norris.
Sunday, July 1:
Brasuka! is back with a new band member – vocalist and percussionist Jacqueline Sotelo. This Brazilian Samba band – specializing in the rich and rhythmic sounds of Sergio Mendes, will get you moving! Brasuka! features Rosana Eckert (vox/perc), Jacqueline Sotelo (vox/perc), Ricardo Bozas (vox/perc), Brian Piper (piano/vox), Brian Warthen (bass), Jose Aponte(drumset/vox).
Tuesday, July 3:
Mi Son, Mi Son, Mi Son Cuban folk/jazz band, lights the fuse on some great percussion-driven dance music. Mi Son, Mi Son, Mi Son features David Pierce, Vocals and Trombone; Robert Gomez, Vocals and Tres*; Ross Schodek, Bass; Joe Cripps, Congas; and Jose Perez, Bongo. The band pays homage to the beauty and soul of Cuban Son and traditional Cuban music. The group’s instrumentation consists of 3 percussionists, bass, tres (a specialized guitar), trombone and vocals. Dancing is welcome, and the floor gets crowded quickly when Mi Son starts up. * The Cuban Tres is a guitar-like instrument with three double strings (six strings in all). Wednesday, July 4:
Independence Day has Sweetwater Grill & Tavern decked in red, white and blue. Owner Karen Meredith and Chef Jimmy are cooking up a patriotic party, and in an unusual departure from booking live Jazz exclusively, will showcase local brother-sister band Nick and Bonnie Norris. The Americana band offers a rich, melodic mix of original songs and covers. Nick on vocals, acoustic guitar, and Bonnie on violin/fiddle and vocals. Click to view:
